Barry is a very friendly puffin, and he’s just the right size to sit in your hand for a comforting squeeze. I live in Caithness, in the north east Scottish Highlands, and we're lucky enough to have these beautiful birds come to the nearby cliffs in the spring to breed. They're real characters, with their colourful beaks and smart black and white plumage. I'm hoping that Barry will bring a little bit of the Scottish Highlands into your home, even if you're hundreds of miles away!
Each bird knitting kit is carefully handmade and packed by me, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit a cuddly puffin friend – No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!
If you'd like to add needles to your kit, a pair of high quality 25cm long 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.
Your puffin knitting kit is presented in a large, stylish gift box, and bundled up in plastic-free, recyclable packaging. This bird knit kit is the perfect, original gift for a knitter, birder, or puffin fan - they'll love knitting Barry, and the kit includes a cute puffin button badge for them to wear, too!
What's included in your knit kit?
- A full colour printed knitting pattern
- 5 different colours of high quality, soft DK acrylic yarn
- Polyester toy stuffing (or puffin stuffin as I like to call it)
- A Barry the Puffin button badge
Is Barry suitable for beginners?
Very much so. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round.
Basic knitting skills that you’ll need to know:
Knit stitch, purl stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. Head on over to my how to knit tutorials if you need any advice!
All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free, and recyclable.
The gift box measures 28cm x 19cm x 8cm.
Barry the Puffin is 16cm tall.
